How can you determine your individual risk?
For most women, the Gail score is adequate for breast cancer risk assessment. However, use of this tool is not a valid option for families who have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 autosomal dominant mutation. The Gail Model is a risk assessment tool that combines the following seven risk factors to predict the five-year and lifetime risks of developing breast cancer:
age
number of first degree female relatives with a history of breast cancer
age at first live birth
number of prior breast biopsies
history of biopsy-proven atypical hyperplasia
age at menarche and race
This breast cancer risk calculation is fast and simple. If you would like to know your own predicted breast cancer risk, you can calculate it here.
